Taxodium distichum 'Bald Cypress'
In summer, the Bald Cypress might look like a typical needled evergreen, but as its name suggests, it’s actually deciduous or “bald.” Unlike most conifers, it sheds its needles just before winter. The soft, light yellow-green needles transform into shades of yellow, orange, and brown in the fall. Its bark is exfoliating, naturally peeling to reveal fresh layers beneath. Reddish-brown in color, it strips away in long, fibrous pieces that add striking texture and visual interest. The Bald Cypress grows from Maryland down the East Coast to Texas and as far west as the Mississippi Valley.
Grows 50'-70'h x 20'-30'w; Full Sun; Moist, acidic-soil; Hardiness zone 4-10
