The Mexican Fan Palm features shiny, deep green fronds that form a crown at the top of the tree. The fronds are large, fan-shaped, and measure 3 to 5 feet wide, with sharp spines at their base. This palm is incredibly tall, reaching heights of 70 to 100 feet and about 10 feet in width. Its short, bumpy brown trunk gradually becomes a slender, smooth gray trunk over time, slightly wider at the base. When in bloom, flower stalks 3 to 10 feet long produce small, light-colored flowers, followed by edible, dark fruits. Cold hardy to 10 degrees.
