Sabal palmetto

 

The Sabal palmetto, or cabbage palm, is easily identified by its tan-gray, unbranched trunk and large crown of fan-shaped leaves. As the state tree of South Carolina and Florida, it’s a well-known symbol of the southern United States. This resilient palm thrives across the region and has been cultivated for centuries by Native American tribes and early settlers alike.
